Rowland Chen has been a scientist, engineer, educator, mentor, and business advisor in a career which spans 35+ years. He leads the implementation of Large-Scale Transformation programs to drive up valuations of client firms. Clients include both privately-held, private equity owned, and publicly-traded firms ranging from Global 1000 enterprises to small, early-stage companies in Silicon Valley.
Rowland has held line operating and executive positions at General Electric, General Dynamics, Diasonics MRI, and several start-ups including Dunn Instruments and The Busy Planet. Additionally, Rowland held partner-level roles with Gemini Consulting, Electronic Data Systems, C-Change, Viant, TSAssociates, and Hitachi Consulting. His early career was spent performing research in pulmonary physiology, conducting vulnerability studies on helicopter parts for the U.S. Army, and designing cruise missile guidance & control systems for the U.S. Navy.
Outside his professional career, Rowland is the Strategy Advisor to the M.I.T. Program for Global Human Rights & Justice and the President of the M.I.T. Sloan Club of Northern California. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers. He enjoys several flavors of athletics – skiing, swimming, bicycling, running, and hiking – and was a former professional triathlete. Rowland lives in Silicon Valley.
Rowland earned a B.S. in Bioengineering at Johns Hopkins University, a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his MBA at the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management.
